About

Nick has wide ranging educational experience including: fourteen years in schools; three years in local authority school improvement;  ten years as a coursework moderator; six years with the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA) and five years in school governance. 

Nick has been involved in shaping policy, working with key government partners,  representing QCDA on advisory panels, supporting research projects and developing guidance and resources for use in schools and local authorities. 

Nick’s work at QCDA included providing subject expertise to the National Curriculum test development programme and leading the development of the revised National Curriculum programmes of study for secondary mathematics. Nick was a key member of the team developing whole school approaches to assessment. “Assessing Pupils’ Progress” has been widely taken up by schools across England. The approach has been influential on classroom practice and impacted on children’s achievement.
